The south Korean authorities made a reckless violence against students who occupied the US embassy in Seoul to stage a protest against the US demanding a hike in the defense cost share. On Oct. 18, seventeen south Korean students affiliated to the Progressive Federation of Students climbed over a wall of the US embassy to find their way into the embassy. In the embassy they staged the protest carrying placards written “Harris, who is forcing defense cost for the US force by five times, leave this land ”, while shouting slogans “no hike in the defense cost share”, “denounce the US” and “withdrawal of the US army”. The south Korean authorities made four students arrests.  The surprise protest is reminiscent of occupation of the US culture house in Busan in the 1980s. In Denunciation of US On Oct. 8, civic organizations including the Busan Coalition  of the Pan-national Alliance for Korea’s Reunification  held a press conference outside the US consulate in Busan to denounce the US wh ich  has violated the DPRK-US joint statement and aggravated the situation of the Korean  P eninsula. The US has applied sanctions against north Korea after inking the DPRK-US joint statement to push the DPRK-US relations to catastrophe. And it is worsening the situation of the Korean Peninsula while introducing numerous nuclear weapons into south Korea, they noted. The US forces in south Korea, which has wasted blood tax of the south Korean people under the pretext of “defense cost” and blocked the trend towards peace, prosperity and reunification, should be withdrawn from south Korea, they stressed.   

On Oct. 10, a civic organization  sponsor ed a rally in Daejeon to strongly demand reform of the prosecution and liquidation of conservatism. Participants said that the prosecution is typical target of liquidating conservatism as it has made desperate efforts to suppress dissidents. They called for the people to turn out in the struggle for reform of the prosecution. War drill against north Korea  The US is conducting marine combined drill against north Korea with south Korean army behind the screen of “peace” and “dialogue”. On Oct. 3, the Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps said at a meeting held in Washington that the U.S. 3rd marine expedition in Japan and south Korean marine have conducted joint exercise and they will keep “KMEP” drill in autumn of this year.     “KMEP” drill is the one that has been conducted annually with the unit of 3rd U.S. Marine Corps in Okinawa whose mission is to infiltrate into north Korea and south Korean marine stationed in Pohang port and five islands in the west sea. On last March, the U.S. military authorities including the deputy commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps declared the combined special war drill between south Korea and the U.S. marine corps to the public. Elimination of lawbreakers On October 27, the prosecution issued a summons to 20 members of Liberty Korea Party to take attendance but they  declined . It sparks the public criticism. In last April, the members of the national assembly affiliated to the LKP seriously violated the law by keeping the members of the other part ies  in the rooms and occupied their offices. They received the summons from the prosecution.  But the group of LKP refused investigation of the prosecution three times, saying it as a “political oppression”. Hwang Gyo-ahn, the head of the LKP, instructed his members of the party not to go to the investigation organ, saying that it is innocence to resist peacefully against illegality. It is quite natural that those who take an illegal act should be punished. The LKP is the group of immorality in the world.

On Oct. 4, students of the south Korean Student Progressive Federation called a press conference in front of the US embassy. They condemned the US which expressed its dissatisfaction with the south Korean air force’s flight over the Dok islet and intervention of internal affairs of south Korea such as its abolition of GSOMIA..    Dok islet is an inviolable territory from the historical point of view. On Oct. 5, a large candlelight demonstration took place outside the Supreme Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Seoul High Public Prosecutors Office in demand of reform of the prosecution. Civic organizations held the 8th candlelight resistance after making speeches, giving art performance and staging protests. About three million people of different strata took part in the protests. We are candlelight holders who drove Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye to prisons, it is easy to send the prosecution to the jail, they said, chanting slogans.   They set up large-size electric bulletin boards, luminous instruments with all missions, candles, bugles and placards around the meeting venue and shouted slogans and sung led by speakers. On September 26, the grand peace march of the south Korean students had a rally in front of the White House to condemn the US. They made speeches and chanted slogans outside the White House and exchanged greetings with members of expedition who are claiming withdrawal of the US forces in south Korea.    Prior to this, out of the desire of all Koreans for national independence and national self-determination, they gave a performance outside the State Department. After the rally, they went to the Capitol to deliver speeches against the US disturbing the process of peace of the Korean Peninsula. The US is going to hold the right of command in war and peacetime over the south Korean army through the UN Forces Command after transfer of wartime operation control to the south Korean army. It well known to the world that south Korea and the US have pushed ahead to set up the future combined command at which the south Korean army takes the commandership and the US holds  deputy commandership after the transfer of wartime operation control. However, the US said that it is unacceptable for the US army to be under the commander of other nation. It is insisting on exercise of the right of command in war and peacetime over the south Korean army through the UN Forces Command after transfer of wartime operation control. South Korean people from all walks of life strongly demand reformation of the prosecution. On September 26, professors in Busan had a press conference to make public a declaration on the situation, in demand of reform of the prosecution. The prosecution has served as a faithful servant of the successive regimes as it is a group of controlling criminal process, the declaration condemned.
