                  Disturbance of peace and security   Of late, the south Korean military authorities are busy with development of advanced weaponry and arms buildup in order to get rid of their military inferiority caused by the DPRK's strong military muscle. The operational report of the Ministry of Defense of south Korea for 2021 stressed the enhancement of surveillance and alarm system of unmanned reconnaissance plane to be used in the corps and divisions of the south Korean army to cope with threat from the DPRK’s ballistic rockets. The report specified the continuous reinforcement of war potential including detection of missiles.   They are going to form “smart division” in the army, “smart naval port” in the navy and “smart wing” in the air force in order to bolster up the military strength with high technology.   Embarrassed, incompetent diplomacy   South Korean media outlets including  Financial News  and  Donga-Ilbo  commented south Korean diplomacy as an unbalanced and incompetent one which sparked off derision by the domestic and foreign public. Even the south Korean authorities described the south Korean diplomacy as the one-sided and humiliating one and it rattled the nerve of its master to drive itself into a tight corner inside and outside, the mass outlets commented.   

   Stop backup of leaflet scattering   421 civil organizations made public a joint statement against the US which is pushing ahead parliamentary hearing on leaflet scattering against north Korea.   More than 400 civil organizations including the South Side Committee for Implementing June 15 Joint Declaration stressed on a statement issued on January 29 that prohibition of leaflet scattering against north Korea is to secure security of residents living near the military demarcation line with signature of inter-Korean agreement. It is a minimum measure to restore inter-Korean confidence. It is an obvious interference in the internal affairs that the US Congress is talking about opening of hearing and review of it, it noted.        On Jan. 28, over 400 civil organizations issued a statement in demand of suspension of south Korea-US joint military maneuver scheduled for March.      On January 28, residents living near Susong firing range in Pohang city of North Gyeongsang Province launched a joint action by closing down the road to the shooting range in denunciation of the Ministry of Defense’s step to resume the firing exercise.     The statement demanded total suspension of firing exercise of Apache helicopters scheduled to start in the early February, shutdown of Susong firing range and punishment of Minister of Defense and those responsible for resumption of shooting exercise of Apache helicopters.   They blocked off the entry to the firing range with tractors and agricultural appliances to launch a long-term strike. They have accepted physical and mental damages such as earsplitting noise of helicopters, dropping of bombs and sooty smoke for over 50 years without complaining. They renewed their firm determination to close down the shooting range.       

   Reproachable operational plan   Of late, the Ministry of Unification of south Korea chose "process for peace on the Korean Peninsula" as the heart issue for improving inter-Korean relations in this year, only to spark off surging indignation of broad spectrum of south Korean people. The Ministry of Unification should include its message to resolve the basic problems first, an expert in north Korea reproached.  The Ministry of Unification made a serious mistake in drawing out the plan for 2021 including individual tourism and cooperation in epidemic prevention and humanitarian field, which were flatly rejected by north Korea as inessential issues. It is a mere plan repeating failures so far, the south Korean netizens charged. 

   Intense struggle for peace against war   In recent, south Korean media including Yonhap News, Newsis and Jaju Sibo reported the facts of the south Korean authorities’ introduction of the US-made weaponry, quoting researchers of the Agency for Defense Development and review of experts in north Korea. The introduction of foreign nation-made weaponry stood at 620 million US$ in 2016 in the days of Park Geun-hye regime. The introduction of the US-made weapon reached 378 million US$, that is 61 percent. The introduction of foreign nation-made weaponry rose up 863 million US$ in 2017.   The introduction of the US-made weapons increased by 82 percent in 2019.  South Korea paid 76 percent fund for purchasing the US-made war hardware in 2020. 3 300 million US$ are expected to pay to the US for purchasing US-made military equipment including GPS guided bomber in 2021.   The declaration of national defense buildup at the 8th Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea and military parade throw the south Korean military into uneasiness and horror.  The south Korean military is busy trying to make countermeasure as north Korea’s new-type tactical guided weapons capable of carrying tactical nuclear warhead were shown to the public.    Sexual scandal party    South Korean media  Voice of People  reported that the opposition People ’ s Power Party which has ballyhooed about sexual scandals of the other parties came under strong public criticism for revelation of its past sexual scandals.   According to the media, a civil organization at Pohang of North Gyeongsang Province had a news conference to condemn Kim Byeong-uk who is on trial outside the branch office in Pohang of a district public prosecutor ’ s office in Daegu.  They condemned Kim ’ s voluntary resignation of his membership of the PPP and asserted his retirement of membership of the National Assembly. And Chung Jin-gyeong left his office for he was spotted while sexually abusing girl students when he was university professor. The media reported that the PPP is stigmatized as the sexual scandal party though it has changed its name.
