It has been 110 years since the unlawful "Korea-Japan Annexation Treaty" was fabricated.    Let’s drive out the US  i mperialists by dint of people!   The third meeting for the promotion of national independence and great unity was held under the auspices of the preparatory committee for promoting the reunification outside the war memorial house in Seoul. 114 organizations and 1 000 members of preparatory committee are involved in the preparatory committee .     About 600 members of the organizations including Korean Confederation of Trade Unions and reunification vanguard of the Korean Federation of Trade Unions were participated at the meeting. Independence and reunification are advancing on the strength of the popular masses, progress and patriotism, the appeal said. The appeal called for the people to pool their efforts to achieve national sovereignty free from domination and intervention of the US by intensifying the anti-US struggle.

The south Korean authorities have taken a brownnosing attitude to Japan, while saying “great attachment to relations”, “an important neighbor” and “an uninterrupted efforts for fence-mending”. One year-long frayed high-ranking dialogue channel has been reinvigorated and they have exchanged information about north Korea under the signboard of the general security of military intelligence agreement (GSOMIA) with Japan.      Broad segments of south Korean people flailed Japan’s barbarous colonial rule over Korea in the past on the occasion of the 75 th  anniversary of Korea’s liberation.    Civil organizations in North Jeolla Province called a news conference in memory of victims of “Comfort Women for Japanese Imperial Army” at a plaza.     We are on tiptoe of expectation for genuine liberation though seventy-five years have passed since Korea’s liberation. We will make every endeavor to hasten the day when the truth, human rights and peace are ensured. Mental injury can never barter for a petty amount of money.      On Aug. 10, the promotion committee for Aug. 15 national independence meeting staged a sit-down strike and one-man demonstration for peace and independence. The south Korea-US joint exercise is an undisguised war rehearsal aiming at preemptive strike on north Korea and “decapitation operation”, the organization condemned. The military drill should be totally stopped, it added.   Meantime, the members of South Gyeongsang Provincial Headquarters of the South Side Committee for Implementing June 15 Joint Declaration had a press conference to demand an immediate halt to the south Korea-US joint military drill aggravating the danger of war on the Korean Peninsula. The situation on the Korean Peninsula is spiraling downwards to the brink of war owing to the US hostile policy toward north Korea and the south Korean authorities’ pro-US sycophancy approach, it noted. The joint exercises, adding fuel to the volatile situation of the Korean Peninsula, must be stopped at once, they asserted.

Stop south Korea-US joint military drill!   On August 5, south Korean people from all social standings had a candlelight rally in demand of total suspension of the south Korea-US joint military drill. The candlelight rally for the peace and unification of the Korean Peninsula opens every Wednesday in Seoul.     The government has pointed out that the joint maneuver is a downsized command drill but its nature of attack has not been changed.      A few days ago, a  preparatory committee for the third national reunification meeting for national independence and great unity visited the US military base in Pyeongtaek to carry on the anti-US struggle.      The south Korean and US authorities are going to launch their joint military exercise in August, swimming against intention of south Korean people desirous of peace.    The exercise is aimed at a preemptive attack on the DPRK, that is, the removal of headquarters.       The joint military rehearsal would exacerbate the situation of the Korean Peninsula, the Promotion Committee for Meeting National Independence composed of 180 civic organizations of different strata warned. Abolish “National Security Law”! Of late, the People’s Solidarity of Busan including eight civic organizations in Busan held a rally in demand of abolition of the National Security Law.   They strongly demanded the repeal of NSL, saying that it would always disturb our daily life and conscience.
