   Broad spectrum of south Korean people wage a vigorous struggle against THAAD as the south Korean military authorities and the US force introduce equipment and construction materials for THAAD base in Seongju, North Gyeongsang Province. Hundreds of residents and the members of the civil organization staged a sit-in demonstration against introduction of materials shouting slogans  “ Peace for Soseong-ri ”  and  “ Peace is ensured when THAAD is gone ” . They expressed their strong opposition to violation of human rights and the US and the south Korean military authorities ’  introduction of materials for THAAD, protesting against the police ’ s oppression arm in arm.   Japan ’ s ambition for seizure of Dok islet is insatiable. A few days ago, the Japanese "Self-Defense Forces" made a video edited with English and French and Japanese which shows its ambition to seize Dok islet. In the latest days, Japan pushes ahead the plan to seize Dok islet in secrecy and galvanizes international opinion after building up public opinion in Japan. The Japanese authorities marked Dok islet as Takeshima on its Olympic homepage, taking advantage of Olympic Games. It made uniforms of Japanese players with pattern of the flag of rising sun shedding rays. Even the Japanese "Self-Defense Forces" asserts dominium over Dok islet. However, the south Korean authorities are busy with defensive attitude insisting  “ safe and future-oriented development ”  with Japan. This is intolerable criminal act as it is swimming against the public sentiment against Japan. Strong counteraction against Japan is answer.      

  A few days ago, the members of the Progressive Federation of Students of South Jeolla Province held a press conference to form a civil body for punishing the conservative groups and media which took the lead in the distortion of historical facts of the May 18 popular uprising. Disclosing the nature of ultra-rightist media and conservative elements including the People’s Power Party which have perverted the historical fact of the May 18 Popular Uprising and winked at the criminals, they noted that the mass media which defended those who are responsible for the massacre are sure to be severely punished.   We must remake the history and discussion on history has not yet finished.   A US civil service employee committed an outrage against a south Korean again. A few days ago, a drunken US civil service employee threw a parking keeper to the ground and struck him with the palm of his hand, finding fault with the parking keeper’s poor English.  He even resorted violence on passers-by who tried to stop it. In this regard, south Korean people make a strong protest against it, saying it is an inevitable result which is caused by the US army occupation of south Korea. Civil organizations raise their voices that the withdrawal of the US troops from south Korea is a basic measure to prevent the criminal acts. However, the police authorities did not inflict penalty on the offender only to spark off surging indignation of the south Koreans.

In memory of two girls A ceremony was held at a park to cherish memory of two schoolgirls Sin Hyo-sun and Sim Mi-sun who were killed by an armored vehicle of the US force in south Korea 19 years ago.   Two schoolgirls who were crushed to death by the US armored car   People respect two girls’ memory   Bitter grudge had not faded away though 19 years passed. We must make the US pay a dear price for the crime, a speaker said at the rally. The GIs who killed two girls with armored vehicle are living in peace in the US, being left unpunished, the other speaker noted that the unequal south Korea-US alliance contributed to their death. They in the rally hardened their determination to turn out in the struggle against the foreign force, condemning the US army in south Korea which does not regard the south Korean people’s lives worth those of flies.

  South Koreans of all social standings strongly condemn Japan for its frantic bid to seize Dok islet. The Japan government has claimed that Takeshima belongs to Japan. It is an intolerable act, a civil organization charged at a press conference held outside Japanese consulate in Busan. Against introduction of construction materials On June 8, the Ministry of National Defense and the US troops in south Korea introduced construction materials for THAAD base in Seongju, north Gyeongsang Province. Residents in Soseong-ri and more than eighty members of civil organization against THAAD asserted that deployment of THAAD generates the danger of war on the Korean Peninsula and staged a sit-down strike on the road outside the village hall.   On June, 1, the People’s Action for Abolition of National Security Law made public a declaration in the name of civil organizations and 196 elders of the religious circles in demand of abolition of the NSL at a press conference in Seoul. They said that democracy, human rights, inter-Korean reconciliation and reunification of the Korean Peninsula are inconceivable without abolition of the NSL. The NSL is the anti-reunification law defining north Korea as the enemy and regarding efforts for inter-Korean reconciliation as the enemy-benefitting act. Nonsensical Summit   Broad segments of south Koreans are critical of the south Korea-US summit meeting.   A few days ago, a press conference was held in Seoul to launch petition of hundred thousand people for the abolition of the National Security Law. The petition satisfied necessary conditions for the abolition of the NSL in a matter of less than ten days. The National Assembly said that the petition for abolition of the NSL was passed with approval of the petitioners.
