Statement on the Winter Olympics and Proposal for Inter-Korean Summit
The British Solidarity Committee for Peace and Reunification on the Korean Peninsula (BSCPRKP) hails the holding the Winter Olympics on the Korean peninsula with the participation of DPRK athletes as well as a cheering group and the Samjiyon Orchestra .This is a wonderful initative to build bridges between the north and the south of Korea. A positive step towards reconciliation at the Winter Olympics was the formation of a Pan-Korean Team at the opening ceremony and the beginning together of north-south athletes and teams at the games. The Pyeongchang Olympics provided a historic chance for high-level delegations from the north and south to meet during the tournament and to establish dialogue and cooperation on the Korean peninsula.
A high level delegation headed by comrade Kim Yong Nam , president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly (the law making body in the DPRK) and comrade Kim Yo Jong has gone to south Korea where they have met with the south Korean chief executive and delivered a letter from respected Marshal KIM JONG UN inviting the south Korean chief executive to an inter-Korean
summit in Pyongyang.
It is really great that the DPRK has taken the initiative on the reunification issue . It is our hope that the south Korean side will accept this sincere and warm-hearted offer by the DPRK .
An inter-Korean summit will break the deadlock in inter-Korean relations as well substantially easing tensions on the Korean peninsula.
The south Korean people must fight for independent reunification and the withdrawal of US troops from south Korea.
